Local police department to use "on-officer" video cameras

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - In Saratoga Springs a new camera system is helping police officers fight crime.

Officers will now be equipped with "on-officer" video cameras. The primary purpose of the cameras is to assist with the documentation of the incidents that officers are involved in.

They are not supposed to replace traditional police reporting or investigative techniques, but rather help record the events in real-time.

Two years ago, the police department tried out the on-officer cameras in a pilot program, a year later, the city council purchased a number of cameras for the department.
