UAlbany student faces multiple charges of burglary, sexual abuse

ALBANY, N.Y. — University Police arrested a UAlbany student accused of burglary and sex abuse on Monday.

Derek Engleman, 19, was arrested by University Police and has been charged with Burglary in the second degree and Sexual Abuse in the first degree in connection to an act mentioned in the Safety Alert sent to the community on February 3.

In that incident, a student told police she woke up around 5:40 a.m. to find an unknown male in her room engaging in a lewd act. The student yelled out, and the man ran from her room. Police informed students of the incident through an e-mail and increased patrols at the Uptown campus.

Engleman was also charged with Burglary in the second degree and attempted Sexual Abuse in the first degree in connection to an incident that occurred February 7.

Engleman was sent to Albany County Jail without bail.
