Green Island man admits to bank robberies


WATERVLIET, NY - The City of Watervliet Police Department has made an arrest in connection with the bank robbery reported yesterday at the Bank of America at 1400 2nd Avenue in Watervliet. 


Acting on leads and information developed after the incident, the perpetrator was identified late yesterday afternoon.  He was located and apprehended late this afternoon after conducting surveillance at several locations he was known to frequent. 

He is identified as Richard M. Lenyk, Jr., 37, and currently resides on Paine Street in Green Island.  Lenyk has provided investigators with a statement admitting to the Watervliet robbery as well as committing the recent bank robbery at 1st Niagara in the City of Troy.

A small amount of money was recovered on his person, however, it cannot be confirmed at this time if it was proceeds from either robbery. He is cooperating with the investigation. 

He is expected to be arraigned this evening at Watervliet City Court and remanded to the Albany County Correctional Facility.
