Police: 690 bags of heroin hidden in car under 5-year-old

WESTMINSTER, Vt. – Vermont State Police arrested a 33-year-old woman after they say they found heroin under a rear seat cushion where her 5-year-old child was sitting.

On Saturday, Vermont State Police stopped a 2001 Saab 95 on Interstate 91 north bound near mile marker 25 in the Town of Westminster, Vermont for a marked lane violation and defective equipment.

While conducting an exterior scan of the vehicle with a State Police K9, the K9 alerted to the presence of narcotics inside the vehicle. During a consent search of the vehicle, Troopers located 690 bags of heroin under the rear seat cushion where the driver's 5-year-old child was sitting.

Eugenia Emerson was arrested and transported to the Rockingham State Police barracks. She was issued a citation for trafficking heroin and ordered to appear in Windham County Superior Criminal Court on March 18, 2014. She was also issued a written warning for the defective equipment and marked lane violation.

She was taken to the Southern State Correctional Facility for lack of $5,000 bail.
