EAST GREENBUSH, N.Y. – Police say they have arrested a Troy man for distributing counterfeit money and using his job to conceal the scheme.

According to East Greenbush Police, Quincy Michael, 21, is accused of conspiring with other members of a counterfeit money ring and accepting fake money at his check-out aisle as payment for store merchandise.

Police say that over the past two months, Michael took more than $5,000 worth of counterfeit bills in exchange for items in the store.

Michael has been charged with grand larceny 3rd, possession of forged instruments 1st, and conspiracy 4th. Police say United States Secret Service agents took part in the investigation.

According to police, Michael was arrested in December. They say the announcement of his arrest was delayed as authorities attempted to identify other members of the counterfeit money ring.

Police are asking anyone with information about the crime ring to contact East Greenbush Police.
