Great Meadow inmate faces charges

Posted:

ALBANY, N.Y. -- An assault on staff incident took place at the maximum-security Great Meadow Correctional Facility on Friday.

Inmate Christopher Bright allegedly threw a Styrofoam cup of liquid, suspected to be urine, from his cell at a Correction Officer.

"The safety and well-being of staff will always be a top priority to this administration. Aggravated harassment laws are used to deter such vile acts of throwing feces, urine, or toilet bowl contents and the state takes every one of these incidents seriously," said acting Commissioner Anthony J. Annucci.

The officer showered and received a medical evaluation immediately following the incident. He was relieved of his duties and taken by state vehicle to an outside hospital for an injury he sustained to his neck during the incident.

If Bright is found guilty of the charges, he could face a consecutive felony sentence of 2 ½ to 5 years. The 27-year-old is currently serving a 24-year sentence from Bronx County for manslaughter.
