ALBANY, N.Y.--Barnes and Noble Booksellers at Colonie Center collected new books through its Holiday Book Drive to support Reach Out and Read for the second year in a row.
More than 6,800 children's books were donated by store customers during the holiday season.
Reach out and Read is a national program that promotes early literacy and school readiness by distributing books through pediatricians and other medical providers.
"Our health centers are committed to improving the well-being of the children and families we serve, and this generous gift will be of immense help to us as we continue to provide services to children in Albany and Troy," says Kallanna Manjunath, MD, chief medical officer for Whitney M. Young, Jr. Health Services.
The books will be distributed throughout the year to young children served by Whitney M. Young, Jr. Health Services and the Children's Hospital at Albany Medical Center
