Mohawk Hudson Humane Society wants empty bottles, cans

Posted:

MENANDS, N.Y. – The Mohawk Hudson Humane Society in Menands is asking for empty bottles and cans from the community.

Last year, the "Empties for Animals" program generated over $109,000 in revenue. Bottles can be dropped off at the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society in Menands or at any Goldstein Auto Group location.

"It's been a couple years since our ‘Empties for Animals' partnership began with the Goldstein Auto Group and our 2013 income for the program is up 13 percent over last year's record-breaking total," said MHHS Executive Director Brad Shear.

Volunteers sort the bottles and cans based upon the originating distributor which in turn can generate 8 cents per can/bottle instead of the regular 5 cents redemption fee paid at stores.  The money from the "Empties for Animals" program is used to benefit the society.
