AUSTERLITZ, N.Y. – Authorities say they have seized about two pounds of marijuana after a traffic stop on State Route 22 in Columbia County.
According to the Columbia County Sheriff, on Thursday around 8:15 p.m., a Sheriff's Deputy stopped a vehicle for a traffic infraction.
During the traffic stop, authorities say the deputy detected the scent of marijuana in the vehicle. He found the driver of the vehicle was in possession of a plastic bag with a small amount of marijuana inside.
Another Sheriff's Deputy, along with his K-9 partner Andi, were called to the scene.
The Sheriff's Office said K-9 Andi alerted police of a large black knapsack in vehicle's back passenger compartment. According to authorities, the knapsack contained "two large vacuum sealed bags" which each contained about one pound of marijuana.
Martel Williams, 22, allegedly admitted to authorities the marijuana belonged to him. He was arrested and charged with criminal possession of marijuana in the 3rd degree, a felony. He will appear in court in February.
