Two calls were made at 2:37 a.m. describing a large fight inside the bar and moving outside. One caller said more than 100 people were involved.
Another caller, a bartender, told the 911 operator that "our bouncers are getting punched in the face and everything."
Police responded, and they say the scene inside got even more hectic, with eight officers getting hurt. Five people were arrested, including Roshawon Donley. Video of his arrest shows police using what some in the community call excessive force.
Captain Cooney said he has some fear for the safety of his officers, as many community members are voicing their anger about the brutality allegations.
"There's just no upside to the outrage. There's no good reason for the community to speak out and march out yet. We have an investigation. We're uncovering facts daily that help explain what happened and as the Chief said patience is the number one issue we need to stress right now," said Cooney.
Cooney said one complaint has been filed against the officers' conduct.
