ALBANY, N.Y. – Accounting students from Catholic Central High School will be providing tax assistance to people in need through the month of March.
The students worked throughout the month of January to earn various levels of certification through the Internal Revenue Service. They will be able to prepare tax returns through the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance, or VITA, Program.
Catholic Central High School is the only high school in Upstate New York that participates in the IRS VITA program.
The students will volunteer their time to provide free income tax preparation to low-income families, senior citizens, the disabled and limited English speaking students from surrounding communities.
About 12 certified accounting students will be at Catholic Charities in Albany through the month of March to provide assistance. They will be available on January 29, February 5, February 12, February 26, March 3 and March 26.
The students will provide tax preparations from 9:15 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on those days. The Catholic Charities VITA site is located at 40 North Main St. in Albany.
