SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - A man who admitted to trying to frame a Scotia business owner on drug charges will now be going to prison.
According to the Schenectady County District Attorney, 22-year old James Slater will spend up to 12 years behind bars after pleading guilty to perjury charges this week.
Slater was a paid-police informant, when he claimed last year to officers that he bought crack from the "Dabb City Smoke Shop". In reality, authorities say Slater smuggled the drugs into the store, then brought them out, making up the story to police they were sold to him.
In the end, it was surveillance footage showing him removing the drugs in the shop, that unfurled his story.
