State lawmakers, UFC meet to discuss future of MMA

ALBANY, N.Y. -- State lawmakers and officials with the Ultimate Fighting Championship met in Albany Tuesday, to discuss the future of mixed martial arts in New York State.

The meeting is part of the 2014 campaign to legalize and regulate mixed martial arts fights in the state.

Among those in attendance were UFC Sr. Vice President and COO Ike Epstein, Assembly Majority Leader Joe Morelle and Senator Joseph Griffo.

MMA fighting is legal in all other states, and proponents say the fights could bring an additional $135 million in economic activity to the state.
