HOOSICK FALLS, N.Y. – A home in Hoosick Falls is a total loss after it caught fire early Friday morning.

Multiple companies were called to a fire at 28 Center St. just before 3 a.m. Friday.

The fire was already fully involved as the first fire crew arrived on scene.

Hoosick Falls Fire Chief Robert Bornt said they believe the fire started in the rear of the building.

The fire was put out by 5 a.m., but fire crews had difficulties putting out the blaze due to the cold temperatures.

"With the cold condition, we had problems getting water out of the hydrant system," Bornt said. "The hydrant system was fine but froze up trying to get to the hydrants. Man power was another issue with the cold trying to get the guys to the fire stations."

In addition, crews had difficulty getting the trucks near the home because of tight corners and power lines were in the way of the aerial ladder.

All residents of the home got out safely, and nearby residents were also evacuated from their homes. The nearby Pan Am rail station was closed because the main water line was on the other side of the train tracks.
