TROY, N.Y. – The city of Troy is hoping some new blood will bring new opportunities downtown.
Erin Pihlaja is ready to get started in her new role overseeing the Downtown Troy Business Improvement District. The group was put in place three years ago, and she is responsible for a number of events and business ventures across the Collar City.
She said her goal is to get people who are excited to live, work and study in Troy.
Pihlaja is the former news and features editor of Metroland which has helped her get to know the people who live all around Troy.
"I've met all these amazing people here, and I just can't wait to network them all together," she said.
She said new restaurants are opening on every street corner and cater to a younger, eclectic crowd.
"There's a buzz, and it's slowly and surely becoming the place to be," she continued. "Downtown Troy is the place to be."
And there are plenty of store fronts ready for development. Pihlaja said it's all part of the marketing that comes with an historic city such as Troy.
"One of the best things about this downtown besides its walkability and access to the river is its architecture," she said. "It's stunning."
And it looks like this city is ready to share the wealth with everyone else.
"It's about creating a quality of life for the downtown district for everybody whether they stay here or they come visit," she said.
