WYNANTSKILL, N.Y. -- Less than 24 hours after fire destroyed Villa Valenti restaurant, the investigation to find the cause has been turned over to the North Greenbush Police Department.
On Wednesday, crews spent hours sifting through the debris looking for clues and even putting out hot spots that re-ignited. Investigators combed through the rubble searching for any sign as to what might have started the fire.
Firefighters from 12 different departments battled violent flames for most of Tuesday night.
Crews used an excavator to dig out rubble in the rear of the building so crews could have better access to that point. They brought back fire trucks to hoist lights high in the air so investigators could better see what they're working with. Even a dog was used to sniff out any possible causes to the fire.
