Herkimer, N. Y. - Police in Herkimer arrested a man on arson charges following a domestic dispute early Wednesday morning.
They say a family dog is credited with saving the family by alerting them of the fire that the suspect allegedly set.
Police say 58-year-old Stephen Carter of Inlet set fire to his father's home in Herkimer around 2am Wednesday following a domestic dispute.
Shortly after the dispute, the house began to fill with smoke and the family dog then awakened a family member who called 911 to report the fire.
Fire crews make quick work of that fire, containing it to only one room of the house.
Carter was charged with 2nd degree arson and sent to jail on $25,000 bail.
