More funding for flood protection

ALBANY, N.Y. - Senator Chuck Schumer has won a fight for more funding for flood protection.

According to the Senator, the funding will be raised to nearly $34 million for this fiscal year, the largest hike in history.

It will help preserve existing gauges and database upgrades in Upstate New York following Tropical Storms Lee and Irene, Superstorm Sandy and flooding in Mohawk Valley last June.

Schumer believes the money will flow to more gauge sites and will dramatically improve flood detection and planning.
