ALBANY, N.Y. - The defense for an Albany County man accused of killing his partner chose not to give an opening statement on Tuesday.

After the prosecution gave its opening statement, Williams' defense team chose not to speak.

Williams is accused of stabbing Sharene Wallace multiple times in her Albany apartment last May. The victim was found dead inside her apartment in a bedroom closet, according to police. He has been charged with second-degree murder

At the time of the crime, Williams was under the supervision of the NYS Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (Parole) and is a level 2 registered sex offender. Additionally, Williams was wanted for a Parole violation.

Wallace was also under the supervision of the NYS Department of Corrections and Community Supervision at the time of her death.

The victim's sister has told NEWS10 ABC that Wallace and Williams were married, but only under Islamic Law.
