LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. -- Siena College is grooming the next generation of computer scientists through their IMPACT program.
IMPACT is an outreach program for local high school students with strong math skills who have never done any computer science activities before.
The program introduces students to skills such as software engineering and graphics.
Program Coordinator Don Ditursi says the program is important because there is a huge shortage of computer scientists -- especially women.
A total of 72 students from 11 schools in the area attended the event.
Ditursi hopes by showing students the aspects of computer science, it will draw them in to the field.
