Rensselaer Co. sees increase in New Year’s Eve safe rides home

Posted:

TROY, N.Y. — The results of Rensselaer County's New Year's Eve Safe Ride Home initiative were released on Thursday.

During the three hour operation, 31 rides were provided and a total of 63 people were returned home safely, an increase of 42 percent over last year's participants.

"It is very reassuring to know that the message is being heard and people are recognizing the dangers of driving drunk.  I want to thank all of the volunteers who made this year's Safe Ride program a reality and a success as well as all of the designated drivers and partygoers who planned ahead," said County Executive Kathy Jimino.
