White Plains man sentenced for money laundering

ALBANY, N.Y. A White Plains man has been sentenced for his role in a money laundering scheme.

Hopeton Labeach, 55, was sentenced to 1 to 3 years in Albany County Court Wednesday morning for felony Money Laundering.

An investigation by the Bethlehem Police Department revealed that the defendant contacted an 89-year old victim and told her that she won a monetary prize through the Publishers Clearing House Sweepstakes.

The defendant told the victim that in order to collect her prize she needed to send him money orders. The victim sent multiple money orders to the defendant, which totaled over $7,900.

The defendant must also pay restitution to the victim in the amount of $7,900 and a No Contact Order of Protection in favor of the victim was issued by the judge.
