Troy man steals returnable bottles, cans from Boy Scout troop

BRUNSWICK, N.Y. – A 21-year-old Troy man has been arrested
after police say he stole returnable bottles and cans from a Boy Scout troop.
State Police in Brunswick arrested David A. Castagnier II for
Petit Larceny after he was caught on surveillance cameras taking returnable
bottles and cans from bins maintained by Boy Scout Troop 537.
In the past six weeks, beginning around Thanksgiving, Scout
Master Wayne Christiansen had noticed that the two donation bins located at the
town library and the town hall in Brunswick had no returnables in
them. Christiansen said the loss was about $575 based on previous
The scout master set up cameras at the two locations, and
when he checked the cameras on January 3, they both recorded the same
man taking the returnables out of the bins. The suspect was
later identified by troopers as Castagnier.
He was arrested and admitted to taking the bottles and cans
from the bins. Castagnier was released on an appearance ticket, and is
due in Brunswick Court on January 15.
