State lawmaker seeks hearing on ethics panel ruling

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - A state Assemblyman has appealed an ethics panel's finding that he sexually harassed staff members in 2009 and 2011, and is requesting a public hearing on the matter.

A lawyer for Assemblyman Micah Kellner sent the notice of appeal and hearing request to Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver on Wednesday.

Kellner says the Assembly Ethics Committee's investigation was flawed and its conclusions wrong. The Manhattan Democrat requested a public hearing with sworn testimony from witnesses. He asked for a stay on sanctions in the meantime.

Sanctions imposed by Silver include stripping Kellner of his unpaid chairmanship of the Libraries Committee, forbidding him to employ interns, and requiring him to attend sexual harassment prevention training.
