New sheriff sworn in for Saratoga County


MECHANICVILLE, NY - Michael Zurlo (R,I - Stillwater) was sworn in as Saratoga County Sheriff at noon on Sunday.

The ceremony took place in the Paul Luther Auditorium of the Mechanicville High School. New York State Supreme Court Justice Thomas Nolan, administered the Oath of Office.   

Hundreds of attendees arrived to witness the historical moment. 

Zurlo, a lifelong resident of Saratoga County, began his law-enforcement career with the Mechanicville Police Department and worked in the Saratoga County Sheriff's Department for more than 30 years as a deputy, sergeant, senior criminal investigator and lieutenant.

He will succeed New York State's longest serving sheriff, James Bowen, who is retiring after more than 40 years of service.
