RPI grad to participate in space walk to repair ISS

Posted:

ALBANY, N.Y. -- Two NASA astronauts, including an RPI graduate, are preparing for a space walk to fix the International Space Station.

Rick Mastracchio has a master's degree from the RPI Hartford campus.

NASA says the crew will replace a faulty pump module in the cooling system. The first space walk is scheduled for Saturday morning, and a second for Monday.

NASA says, if necessary, a third could be scheduled for Christmas day.

The space walks are expected to last about six-and-a-half hours.
