TROY, N. Y. – Troy police arrested a man they said was responsible
for exposing himself to teenagers that he tried to lure to his vehicle near a
school in Lansingbugh.
Police arrested and charged 34-year-old Jonathan Willett of
Castleton-on-the-Hudson with two counts each of Public Lewdness and Endangering
the Welfare of a Child.
Willett was arrested December 13 following a coordinated effort by
police in the Lansingburgh section of the city.
A female Lansingburgh High School student informed school
officials that a male called her over to his car while he was engaging in a
Troy Police Captain John Cooney said five similar incidents were
reported in the past week by young girls.
"We had a very brave victim disclose yesterday, and her
disclosure brought forth others," he said.
The suspect was calling to females, between the ages of 13- and 17-years-old,
to his car, asking for help finding his lost dog. When the victims approached
the vehicle, the man exposed himself, performing a lewd act. This usually took place
during after school hours between 2 and 4 p.m.
The victims provided a description of the suspect and his vehicle.
A detective saw a vehicle matching the description obtained
following the recent incidents and stopped Willett.
Police credit the victims with providing an accurate and detailed
description of the suspect and his vehicle.
Willett was arraigned December 14 and sent to the Rensselaer
County Jail on $5,000 bail.
