TROY, N. Y. – Troy police arrested a man they said was responsible for exposing himself to teenagers that he tried to lure to his vehicle near a school in Lansingbugh.
Police arrested and charged 34-year-old Jonathan Willett of Castleton-on-the-Hudson with two counts each of Public Lewdness and Endangering the Welfare of a Child.
Willett was arrested December 13 following a coordinated effort by police in the Lansingburgh section of the city.
A female Lansingburgh High School student informed school officials that a male called her over to his car while he was engaging in a lewd act.
Troy Police Captain John Cooney said five similar incidents were reported in the past week by young girls.
"We had a very brave victim disclose yesterday, and her disclosure brought forth others," he said.
The suspect was calling to females, between the ages of 13- and 17-years-old, to his car, asking for help finding his lost dog. When the victims approached the vehicle, the man exposed himself, performing a lewd act. This usually took place during after school hours between 2 and 4 p.m.
The victims provided a description of the suspect and his vehicle.
A detective saw a vehicle matching the description obtained following the recent incidents and stopped Willett.
Police credit the victims with providing an accurate and detailed description of the suspect and his vehicle.
Willett was arraigned December 14 and sent to the Rensselaer County Jail on $5,000 bail.
