BALLSTON SPA, N.Y. – A woman who was recently sentenced to State Prison for causing a fatal crash, has been granted bail pending her appeal.
Traci Briskin's lawyer confirmed on Thursday that the Appellate Division has granted her $75,000 cash bail as the appeal is pending. However, Briskin is still in jail but she plans to post bail on Monday
Briskin and her attorney are appealing the manslaughter and DWI convictions handed down by a jury following a three week trial.
On December 2, 2013 40-year-old Briskin was sentenced to 2 ½ to 7 ½ years in State Prison in connection to a fatal crash.
A jury convicted the Clifton Park woman in September. She was found guilty of Manslaughter in the 2nd Degree for a November 2012 car crash in Charleton that killed 49-year-old Thomas Baker.
According to police, Briskin was impaired by alcohol and driving recklessly on Jockey Street at the time of the crash. Police say she crossed the center line twice, weaved, and took her eyes off the road to search for a dropped GPS unit and she sped through a stop sign.
Baker was severely injured after the crash and was taken to the hospital, where he died a few days before Christmas.
