Troy Police investigating report of man engaging student during lewd act

TROY, N.Y. – Troy Police are currently investigating an incident where a man allegedly called a female Lansingburgh High School student over to his car Wednesday morning while engaging in "lewd conduct."

The student ran from the area and reported the incident to school officials. Police describe the suspect as a white male in a dark colored sedan.

Troy Police Captain John Cooney said five similar incidents have been reported this past week by young girls.

"We had a very brave victim disclose yesterday, and her disclosure brought forth others," said Cooney.

The suspect has been calling to females, between the ages of 13 and 17 years old, to his car, asking for help finding his lost dog. When the victims have approached the vehicle, the man then exposes himself, performing a lewd act. This usually takes place during after school hours, between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.

Although he has not attempted to abduct any of the victims, these incidents are still causing for concern and something Captain Cooney is taking very seriously.

"If there's any good side to such a horrific act, is the fact that he has not attempted to abduct."

Lansingburgh Central School parents are being more vigilant, including Ty Estrada, a father of a student. Estrada usually allows his daughter to walk home alone from school, but that has changed after the reported incidents.

"The school called us yesterday and told us what happened," explained Estrada. "We told her she couldn't stay after school no more. So I figured I'd come pick her up, you know?"

The Lansingburgh School District sent out a letter to parents warning them of the incident.

A notice was also posted to the school district's Web site. The district advised students to be aware of their surroundings, walk in pairs; don't talk to strangers and to use main streets.

Police do not know whether the suspect is from or around the Troy area.

Authorities are urging people who believe they may have been a victim of this man, or know anything about a white male in a dark sedan parked suspiciously around the Lansingburgh High School this week, to contact Troy Police.
