SCHAGHTICOKE, N.Y. – A Rensselaer County official was in court Monday night facing felony charges after police said she defrauded at least two people in Schaghticoke.
49-year-old Marcia Doyle was in Schaghticoke Town Court for the first time since she was arrested and charged with Grand Larceny and Scheming to Defraud at least two people out of $34,000.
Doyle is accused of stealing money from two Schaghticoke residents during early 2011.
Doyle appeared in court for a status hearing after more than a year-long investigation conducted by the New York State Police.
Police said Doyle would promise people good investments with a short turn around and high return, but they never received any repayment.
The Albany County District Attorney was asked to prosecute the case because Doyle is an attorney in Averill Park and had a prior professional relationship with the Rensselaer County District Attorney.
Only two people are currently named as complaints, but State Police investigators believe more charges will be filed with addition complainants.
NEWS10 ABC requested an interview with Doyle last week after the initial charges were field but was asked to leave her property. Another interview was requested Monday, but Doyle refused.
The case is being moved to Federal Court in Rensselaer County. A new court date has not been set.
Police are still asking anyone who believes they may have been a victim of Doyle's to contact State Police in Brunswick at 279-4427.
