GlobalFoundries security threat postpones construction
MALTA, N.Y. – A Glenville man has been arrested after police say he wrote a note alleging that explosives were placed at the GlobalFoundries Fab 8 facility.
New York State Police at Saratoga arrested Robert Thomas, 25, of Glenville, NY for falsely reporting an incident in the 2nd degree.
Thomas, who works for an electrical contractor at GlobalFoundries as an electrician's apprentice, is alleged to have written a note stating that explosives were placed at the facility. The note was left in a common area at GlobalFoundries.
In response, the company postponed construction activities for the day. The New York State Police were informed of the situation, and are currently conducting an investigation.
There were no injuries or property damage, and manufacturing operations at the site have not been impacted. Construction is expected to resume Tuesday.
Thomas was arraigned in the Town of Malta Court, and remanded to the Saratoga County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail and $10,000 bond.
Thomas has a stay away order for the Globalfoundries site. A psych evaluation has also been ordered for the accused man.
