SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The extensive report on the fatal
Northway crash last December has been made available to the public following Dennis
The report highlights exactly how the crash happened, what Drue
was texting at the time and the extent of his driving record, all information
that may have come out in court if this case went to trial.
The official report is lengthy, detail after detail of exactly
what happened the night of December 1st, 2012. That was the night when
Chris Stewart and Deanna Rivers lives were taken and the lives of Bailey Wind
and Matt Hardy were changed forever.
The report states that Drue was driving almost 80 mph at the time
of the crash and that he did have alcohol in his system. There was also an
active byproduct of marijuana THC in his blood stream, a high level that
would affect his reaction time and capability to control his muscle movement.
On Thursday, the day Drue was sentenced 5-15 years for causing the
fatal crash, a press conference was held by Saratoga County District Attorney
Jim Murphy who spoke about finding another witness to back up that claim.
"The investigation into driving records show he was ticketed
in 22 separate incidents and his drivers license was suspended five times for
failure to answer to tickets and pay fines," said Murphy.
Since the crash, there have been questions about Drue possibly
texting before the wreck. Investigators released exactly what he was texting
about after going through his phone.
One text to Drue dealt with marijuana. The person texting him said
someone was "telling me to hit him up for bud and he would do it for
Drue replied "Yeah, too bad he buys (expletive) from me all
"You will see between 40 and 50 text messages. That gives you
an idea of the kind of person the defendant is," said Murphy.
On December 1st, 2012, the four Shenendehowa High
School students were leaving a sports game in Albany when they were driving on
the Northway to a sleepover.
Drue admitted that he was on his way home from Koto Restaurant in
Colonie, where it was determined that he had 4 shots of alcohol, gin and tonics,
and beers. Officials say Drue drove up the Northway toward Saratoga County when
he began to text while driving. That is when the crash happened, killing
Stewart and Rivers, both 17-year-old.
Drue was arrested in January at his Halfmoon
In September 2013, Drue pleaded guilty to 58 charges against him.
He remained free of $50,000 cash bail.
NEWS10 ABC will have more details during our newscasts; including
