PITTSFIELD, Mass. – Second alarm fire in Pittsfield sent two to the hospital.
The Pittsfield Fire Department received a call for a fire just before 8 p.m. at 47 Merriam St. in Pittsfield. Upon arrival to the scene, the first unit upgraded the fire to a two-alarm sending all on-duty personnel to the scene.
A nine-year-old boy was rescued by firefighters from the second floor bedroom. He was then transported to Berkshire Medical Center where he was stabilized and then sent to Massachusetts General Hospital for further treatment in critical condition.
A 23-year-old male was also transported to Berkshire Medical Center to be treated for non-life threatening smoke inhalation.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The Pittsfield Fire Department said it appears to be accidental, and it started in the kitchen.
