Amsterdam Police investigate back to back robberies


AMSTERDAM, N.Y. – Amsterdam Police are investigating two robberies that have taken place this week.

On December 2nd around 7:15 p.m. police received a report of a robbery at the Suman Convenient Store in Riverfront Center. The clerk told police that a male entered the store, demanding money from the register and Newport cigarettes. The suspect allegedly displayed what may have been a handgun in his waistband.

On December 3rd around 6 p.m. police received another robbery report at Upstate Electronics on Market Street. The employee told police that a male entered the store demanding money while holding a knife. The employee gave the suspect the money and suffered a laceration to his hand. The suspect fled northbound on Market Street.

The victim was taken to St. Mary's Hospital to be treated for his hand injury.

Authorities say it is not known if the same suspect(s) are involved in both robberies or if they are related.

Police are currently following leads and the surveillance footage is being reviewed. Anyone with information should contact Amsterdam Police.
