GREEN ISLAND, N.Y. – A water main break has resulted in an emergency shutdown of water services in parts of Green Island.
The break occurred in the area of 4 George Street. The emergency shutdown of water service affects anyone residing south of Lafayette Street on George Street. This includes Lower Hudson Avenue, Albany Avenue and all side streets south of the Green Island Bridge in this area.
Emergency repair crews are on the scene and hope to have the break repaired in a few hours.
Executive Assistant to the Mayor, Sean Ward told NEWS10 ABC that crews hope to have the problem fixed by 1 p.m. on Wednesday.
The exact cause is not known at this time.
The crews say this was the largest break in the Village they've seen. It's affecting about a 10 foot section of pipe.
Traffic and parking restriction just north of the Green Island Bridge are also in effect.
