CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. – Students at both Shenendehowa High School and Shaker High School will be remembering two students who were killed in a car accident in December 2012.

Shaker students wore green, and Shenendehowa students wore blue on Tuesday on the Day of Remembrance for the anniversary of the crash.

Some of the shirts read "Shaker-Shen United," remembering how Shaker High School and Shenendehowa High School were both affected by the tragedy.

Shenendehowa students Chris Stewart and Deanna Rivers, both 17, were killed in an accident on the Northway on December 1, 2012. Matt Hardy and Shaker High School student Bailey Wind were severely injured in the crash.

Police said the four students were leaving a sports game last December when a Volvo hit Stewart's car. Dennis Drue, 24, was held responsible for the accident, and he is scheduled to be sentenced Thursday morning.

Shaker High School Principal Richard Murphy said Tuesday "was something that came from our kids through social media."

"As December 1st approached, we wanted to do something to honor not only the families and students affected by this crash but also bring back the sense of community," Shaker senior Audrey Jelstron explained.

Hall Principal and Anti-Bullying Coordinator at Shaker, Jan Zadoorian believes the students are setting an example.

"It's a great teachable moment for kid and for us to work through a process of how to organize and get support for these types of community issues," said Zadoorian.

Family members of Shaker graduate Bailey Wind and the late Shenendehowa student Chris Stewart joined other students for lunch Tuesday afternoon.

Students wore green and blue colors in 2012, a few days following the crash and they are hoping to keep it a tradition.
