Town of Rotterdam opens bidding for EMS services

ROTTERDAM, N.Y. – On Monday, the town of Rotterdam took another step in selecting an emergency medical services provider, as the town clerk's office opened for bids for the town contract.

Bids are expected from the privately owned Rotterdam Emergency Medical Services and Mohawk Ambulance.

On Thursday, a special board meeting will hear from both companies on why they should be chosen.

Eleven paramedics in Rotterdam lost their jobs after the town decided to use an outside company for emergency services. But of the part-time employees let go by the town have all been offered part-time jobs by Rotterdam Emergency Medical Services.

Weeks ago, residents spoke out in hopes that REMS would win the bid to be the permanent EMS provider.
