Fire Department contains fire to attic

JOHNSTOWN, NY – The Johnstown Fire Department responded to a fire call at 119 S. Melcher St. today at 1:45 p.m.

There were no injuries. Fire was contained to the attic, but there is major water damage in the upstairs apartment. The structure is a two-family residence, with an apartment downstairs and one upstairs.

The fire was knocked down in approximately 20 minutes. The building is now uninhabitable, but not a total loss.

The Gloversville Fire Department assisted. And the Red Cross is helping the displaced residents.

The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental, with an electrical problem being investigated before the fire.
