Inspector General investigates DOCCS violation of vehicle policy

ALBANY, N.Y. - An investigation by the NYS Inspector General reveals the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS) has been using company vehicles for personal use.

According to the NYS Inspector General Catherine Leahy Scott, DOCCS gave permission to 64correctional facility superintendents and 16 other staff members to use the company vehicles for commuting to and from their jobs

DOCCS has taken steps to ensure the abuse of company vehicles does not continue by ensuring the workers were no longer assigned to the vehicles. Also, all vehicles will be returned to the agency vehicle pool.

"My investigation found no justification for the assignment of vehicles to DOCCS officials and employees who were not the first line of defense against emergencies at our correctional facilities," said Inspector General Scott.  "The use of these vehicles for commuting and non-business purposes was a waste of taxpayer dollars that should never have been sanctioned."
