WATERVLIET, N.Y. – Authorities questioned a man after he tried to gain access to the Watervliet Arsenal on Friday morning, had a heated exchange with an officer and drove off.
Around 11:20 a.m. on Friday, an individual drove to the South Gate of the Watervliet Arsenal.
According to the Watervliet Arsenal Public Affairs Official, John Snyder, the Arsenal Security Officer at the gate followed protocol and checked the man's registration and inspection on his vehicle. However, the registration was expired. The interaction between the officer and the individual then "became heated."
The man then fled the scene but the license of the vehicle linked it to a Troy residence.
The suspect was apprehended by Troy Police. He was then brought back to the Watervliet Arsenal for questioning.
The Arsenal Security Officer was checked by Arsenal EMS staff and remained on duty, but was later sent to a local hospital to be examined.
The man has been charged with Failure to Comply and Operating an Unregistered Vehicle. He was released on an appearance ticket to stand before a U.S. Federal Magistrate in the future. More charges may be decided by the U.S. District Attorney.
The investigation in ongoing. The identity of the man will not be released at this time.
