Insurance fraud conviction upheld by NYS court of Appeals

ALBANY, NY - The NYS Court of Appeals has upheld the guilty verdict against a man who is accused of insurance fraud related to intentionally setting fire to the Saratoga Winners night club in 2009.

District Attorney P. David Soares stated that on Tuesday, it was affirmed that Akiva Daniel Abraham set fire to the club for insurance fraud.

On April 30, 2009, a fire was intentionally set at Saratoga Winners night club Abraham then filed a "Property Loss Notice", attempting to collect a $475,000 insurance policy even though he knew the property had been destroyed by arson.

He was sentenced to 4 to 12 years in State Prison.
