TROY, N.Y. - A man who was a legend in the area sports scene and a member of the NEWS10 ABC family for 20 years, has passed away.

William "Rip" Rowan passed away on Tuesday night.

Rowan was a member of NEWS10 ABC's team from 1965 to 1985. He also was involved with three of the area's minor league baseball teams, most recently, the Tri-City Valley Cats.

The Tri-City ValleyCats released a statement on Rip saying:

"Rip was an icon within the Capital Region sports community, and was a great friend and contributor to the ValleyCats organization. He had a major influence on many of our lives, and will truly be missed."

He even rubbed elbows with men who would go on to become big names in the sports-world like Brian Cashman, and Andy Pettite.
