SCHENECTADY, N.Y. –A spokeswoman for Mont Pleasant Middle School is offering new details after reports of an altercation at the school on Wednesday.

Karen Corona, spokeswoman for Mont Pleasant Middle School, says that a student had an angry fit and pushed a chair, hitting a teacher in the leg. She says the student did not intend to hit the teacher with the chair.

She also states that there are no injuries, arrests, or lockouts.

Schenectady Police say they were dispatched to the school at about 2:35 in the afternoon. When they arrived, officers were told by staff that a 12-year-old student had an episode in the guidance office and that a teacher had been struck in the lower back and leg with a chair.

After speaking with multiple people on scene, police say it did not appear that the student intentionally struck the teacher, but recklessly threw the chair during an episode.

The teacher was treated on scene by members of the Schenectady Fire Department for pain to her lower back and leg and stated she would seek further medical attention on her own. She refused prosecution or further police action at this time and the student was turned over to his mother.
