WATERVLIET, N.Y. ― The Watervliet Arsenal will conduct a hazardous material training exercise on Wednesday with the support of several community first response teams.
The arsenal will have more than 40 first responders from Albany, Rensselaer, Schenectady, and Saratoga counties, as well as trainers from New York State that will manage the training sites.
Soldiers and Airmen from the New York National Guard's 2nd Civil Support Team, Weapons of Mass Destruction, of Scotia, will conduct training on radiological monitoring.
This exercise is meant to help train arsenal and community first responders to better react to five simulated hazardous material threats that will involve chemical and radiological agents.
Wednesday's training is day two of a four-day session that will ultimately involve up to 160 area first responders. The first day involved a walk-through, set up, and a training ramp up for Wednesday's training.
