ALBANY, N.Y. – A man has pleaded guilty to charges after State Troopers found he had 750 bags of heroin in his car.
District Attorney David Soares says Emmanuel Zapata, 22, pleaded guilty to one count of Attempted Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree, a Felony, on Tuesday morning.
According to officials, on April 26, 2013, New York State Troopers pulled Zapata over on the Thruway in Albany for having a loud exhaust and front tinted windows on his vehicle.
During the traffic stop, Troopers detected a strong smell of marijuana in the vehicle and a K-9 unit was brought to the scene.
Troopers were signaled by the K-9 that drugs may be in the car, prompting a search.
Troopers discovered over 750 bags of heroin inside, as well as marijuana.
Zapata faces 3 years in State Prison, followed by 2 years of Post Release Supervision when sentenced on January 3, 2014.
