Amsterdam Police investigate assault, robbery of pizza delivery driver

AMSTERDAM, N.Y. – Amsterdam police are investigating a Monday incident in which a pizza delivery driver was assaulted and robbed.

Amsterdam Police Dept. received a report of a robbery on Lefferts Street in the City of Amsterdam.  A pizza delivery driver told officers that he was delivering an order on Lefferts Street and as he was attempting to deliver the food he was approached by at least four males.

The victim told officers that one of the men pointed a gun at him, placed him in a choke hold, and demanded his money.  He says he heard at least three other males speaking while he was placed in the choke hold before turning over the money to the man with the weapon.

The suspect then struck the victim in the back of the head with the weapon and fled on foot from the scene.  The victim fell to the ground and observed at least one of the men running south on Lefferts Street. The victim returned to his vehicle and notified police of the robbery.

Police officers secured the scene and conducted a K-9 search of the area and were also able to obtain a phone number for the caller placing the order.

The incident is currently an active investigation and police are following up on leads at this time. Amsterdam Police are asking anyone with information about this robbery to contact the Amsterdam Police Dept. Detective Bureau.
