STUYVESANT, N.Y. – A 40-year-old Valatie man has been arrested and charged after police say he stole thousands of pounds of scrap metal.

New York State Police at Livingston arrested Scott A. Kowalski for Grand Larceny in the third-degree and Burglary in the third-degree, both of which are felonies.

The arrest is a result of investigations conducted by the NYSP – Livingston/BCI and uniform patrol, who allege that Kowalski entered two separate properties in the Town of Stuyvesant between Oct. 1, 2013 and Nov. 6, 2013 and stole several thousand pounds of miscellaneous scrap metal items.

The investigation also revealed that Kowalski entered a commercial construction building located on private property in the Town of Ghent, stealing power tools.

Kowalski was arraigned in the Town of Greenport Court and committed to the Columbia County Jail with no bail. He is due to return to the Town of Greenport Court on November 22 at 10:00 a.m.
