Empire Plaza holiday tree donated by Schenectady family

Updated:

ALBANY, N.Y. – The 2013 Holiday Tree is on its way to the Empire Plaza thanks to a family in Schenectady.

Crews cut down the 35-year-old blue spruce from the lawn of Bill and Nancy Winkler's home on Wendell Avenue on Wednesday morning.

The tree will soon be on display at Empire Plaza, and will be lit for the holidays during a ceremony on December 8.

"It's just exciting, it's a very pretty tree, we've enjoyed it, and we just want to share it with everybody in the capital district," says Nancy Winkler.

The Winkler's also donated a tree in 2001, and this year's tree was donated in honor of their four grandchildren.
