SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- Nearly 3,000 coats have been collected at part of the City Mission of Schenectady's and NEWS10 ABC's initiative to help keep children warm during the winter months.
Each year in October, the mission begins their winter coat drive, collecting coats through drop boxes, participating businesses, and right at their mission location. The collected items are then distributed to the community.
Many coats have already been distributed throughout the community, and as the temperature drops, the need for more is great.
For folks like Dave Jones, a room full of coats, sweaters, and boots means a whole lot more than just something to warm to wear. It's been a long road for Dave, growing up his family struggled to get by and in his adult years he was in and out of the mission. He's worked many odd jobs, so the comfort of a warm winter coat is something he appreciates.
If you have any coats that you would like to donate, you can drop them off at City Mission of Schenectady or click here to find a drop off location near you.
