NYS holiday trees making their way Albany

ALBANY, N.Y. – New York State's holiday trees will be cut down and transported to the Empire State Plaza Wednesday and Thursday.

A blue spruce that will be erected on Empire State Plaza will come from Nancy and Bill Winkler of Schenectady. This will be the second tree donated by the Winkler family. The first tree was placed at the Capitol in 2001 in the memory of Michael Canter, a family friend who lost his life in the World Trade Center.

The blue spruce was planted by Bill and Nancy's father at their home in the 1970s. The tree will be cut and moved to the Plaza Wednesday morning.

A 30-ft tall blue spruce will be cut and placed at East Capitol Park Thursday. The tree was planted more than 20 years ago at the home of Dawn and Chuck Dennis of Sharon Springs.

Lights will be turned on at the New York State Tree Lighting and Fireworks on December 8.
